What is SME?
SME is BMW’s high-voltage battery management control unit. It monitors the battery, exchanges information with other vehicle control units and helps manage its connection to the high-voltage system.
Upload an SME DFLASH, review the battery data and get your cleared file.
Compatibility verification and data reading are free.
BIN / EEPROM · SME DFLASH · 384 KiB

Compatibility depends on the SME version and DFLASH structure. Your file is checked before payment.
Clearing uses your own original file. It does not substitute another vehicle’s data or a virgin file.

During a collision, the safety system sends a crash signal and the high-voltage system shuts down. Event records may remain in the SME. Stored crash data and an active battery fault need to be assessed separately.
Checks DFLASH compatibility, displays the battery data found and creates a cleared file after payment for supported versions. Your original and result are saved in your HVS account.
No. Removing the stored crash state from a supported original SME does not require firmware programming or coding again. Our service clears crash records in the DFLASH while retaining the unit’s firmware and configuration. After writing the cleared file, high-voltage diagnostics confirm whether the vehicle is ready for operation.
No. After crash clearing, all battery module serial numbers and DMCs from your original file remain in the SME. You do not need to re-enter them for this operation if the battery modules and control unit are unchanged.
We do not reset the SME to virgin or pair the modules again. The algorithm changes the targeted crash records and their checksums while retaining the other original records. After battery repairs, the BMW procedure for the vehicle determines whether validation, tokens or EOS are required; retaining data alone does not waive these requirements.
Crash Clear is intended to restore the original SME after a collision while retaining battery data. Returning the vehicle to service requires replacement of triggered pyrotechnic disconnects, repair of damage and confirmation that the entire high-voltage system is sound, including insulation and contactors.
