We set up Android Auto remotely on compatible BMWs with NBT Evo. If you already use Google Maps or Waze on your phone, you’ll be able to follow your route on the BMW display. Send us your VIN and a photo of the iDrive menu to get started. We’ll check your setup and explain what you need for the remote session.
What Android Auto adds to NBT Evo
Picture a typical morning. You’ve looked up an address on your phone and want to keep an eye on traffic along the way. Once the phone is connected, you can open the route on the BMW display. You can also pick up where you left off in a podcast or answer a call from the Android Auto screen.
- Navigation. Follow directions and check traffic in Google Maps or Waze on the car’s display.
- Music and podcasts. Play your usual playlists or shows with Spotify, YouTube Music and other compatible apps.
- Calls. Make and answer calls from the Android Auto interface.
Which BMW models came with NBT Evo?
NBT Evo is the BMW head unit also known as HU-H2. BMW used it with the ID4, ID5 and ID6 versions of iDrive. The menu can look different from one version to the next, while the factory maps for this unit belong to the EVO family.

How to check which head unit your BMW has
Two BMWs built in the same year can have different head units. An F30, for example, could have NBT Evo or EntryNav2 depending on when it was built and how it was equipped. If your car has factory navigation, open the map version screen and take a photo. The EVO label in the map name helps identify the unit.
Send your VIN, model, year and a photo of the main iDrive menu. Tell us if the head unit or screen has been replaced, or if a multimedia module is already fitted. We’ll check the equipment currently in the car before confirming that we can do the setup remotely.
How remote Android Auto setup works
- Check the car. We identify the head unit, confirm the available connection options for your phone and agree on a price and appointment.
- Get ready for the session. A remote BMW session usually involves a laptop with internet access and an ENET cable. We’ll tell you what to have ready and how to connect it to the car.
- Set up Android Auto online. At the agreed time, our technician connects to the laptop by the car and carries out the setup.
- Try it with your phone. Together we’ll launch Android Auto, open navigation and check audio playback. You’ll also see how to connect again on your next drive.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use wireless Android Auto?
That depends on the BMW’s equipment and your phone. If you want a wireless connection, include your phone model when you contact us so we can check before you book.
My BMW already has Apple CarPlay. Will Android Auto work?
CarPlay is a clue about how the car was equipped. We check Android Auto compatibility separately using the head unit and the equipment fitted to the car.
Do I need to bring the car in?
We do the setup online. You’ll need to be with the car to connect the equipment using our instructions and try Android Auto with your phone at the end of the session.
